Fabric gloves consist of heat insulation surrounded by cotton fabric, usually consisting of decorative patterns. Newer oven gloves are made from silicone instead of fabric, which makes them water and stain proof . The new silicone gloves are made or Kevlar and Nomex.

Safety

Since oven gloves protect your skin from burns, they must be used properly to be effective. The mitts, as they are most commonly known, should only be used when completely dry. They are not a permanent protection against heat which means they can only be used for short periods at a time. The gloves should not come into contact with heating elements, gas flames or similar sources of high temperature. Note that fabric gloves will not protect you against hot liquids.

Furnace gloves, or furnace mitts, are more heavily insulated, longer, and can protect the user from intense heat for longer periods of time.
